Where To Get Help

How might your classmates or friends help you with your projects?
How will you help your classmates with their projects?

How can you help? You can share concepts, drawings, and code for your games. You can discuss social issues with other students. Students can communicate on the wiki message board, their blogs, on email, or in person in the classroom about their games, social issues, and give each other advice about where to find answers on the wiki. Students can offer constructive criticism to help each other make their games better. Students could test play each others' games.

Create Your Blog

Who are you?
I am Mr. Streckfus, the teacher of Globaloria and I am from San Antonio, TX. I studied graphic design at School of Visual Arts in New York from 2000 - 2005. I worked in the graphic design field professionally since 2000 and have done lots of work for Dell and JCPenny. I love to play music, draw, swim and ride bikes. What else can I tell you about myself? I come from a large family with three brothers and three sisters. My father was a teacher and so is my oldest brother. I'm married and I have two cats, Pinky and Roxy!

How will you use your blog to help others understand you work with Globaloria?
On my blog I will post my work and discuss it with students so they can understand why I made the decisions I made. Design is all about making wise choices and thinking through all of your options.

Hao Li remembers watching Jurassic Park as a kid: “That moment of seeing something that didn’t exist in reality, but it looked so real—that was definitely the one that made me think about doing this,” he says. Li tells me the story one afternoon while we dine at the cafeteria of Industrial Light & Magic, the famed San Francisco visual-effects studio where he has been working on a way to digitally capture actors’ facial expressions for the upcoming Star Warsmovies.

Minecraft Reviewed on MIT Tech

http://www.technologyreview.com/review/516051/the-secret-to-a-video-game-phenomenon/

This is a long article that will take 2 days to read in class.

Minecraft places its players in the game’s world with few directives. There are almost no goals or commandments to guide or moderate behavior, apart from those of the players’ own making. So what accounts for the game’s success? Its intelligent design reveals a watchmaker’s precision, while the elemental freedom it offers its inhabitants taps into some primal, irresistible human urges

Health: HOW THE BRAIN REACTS TO THE TASTE OF FAT

The research, reported in the journal Chemosensory Perception, could offer the food industry clues for how to make less fatty food products without negatively affecting their overall taste and enjoyment.
The three-year study carried out by the University of Nottingham and the multinational food company Unilever investigated how the brains of a group of participants in their 20s would respond to changes in the fat content of four different fruit emulsions they tasted while under an MRI scanner.

Glass Two Atoms Thick Shatters World Record

http://www.futurity.org/glass-just-two-atoms-thick-shatters-world-record/

Scientists at Cornell and Germany’s University of Ulm had been making graphene, a two-dimensional sheet of carbon atoms in a chicken wire crystal formation, on copper foils in a quartz furnace. They noticed some “muck” on the graphene, and upon further inspection, found it to be composed of the elements of everyday glass, silicon and oxygen.
They concluded that an air leak had caused the copper to react with the quartz, also made of silicon and oxygen. This produced the glass layer on the would-be pure graphene.

Nature: Insect leg cogs a first in animal kingdom

Toothed gears enable young plant hoppers to synchronize limbs for jumping.
If you are a young plant hopper, leaping one metre in a single bound, you need to push off with both hind legs in perfect unison or you might end up in a spin. Researchers have discovered that this synchrony is made possible by toothed gears that connect the two legs when the insects jump.
Zoologists Malcolm Burrows and Gregory Sutton at the University of Cambridge, UK, say that this seems to be the first example in nature of rotary motion with toothed gears. They describe their findings today in Science1.
