Week 18

You must create an animated story or greeting card in Flash.

The scene or story can be of your choosing. Perhaps you have snow falling, or people ice skating on a frozen pond. Make it come to life! Add details like birds, cars driving by, or random people walking.

Title your file like this
SAVE AS:
yourname-seasoncard-121514.fla (with the correct date at the end)

Include one interactive button that takes you to a new scene. The code is below.

Save your FLA and your SWF files on the myglife.org site using File Uploader Tool, found in the left navigation.

Use a classic tween and a shape tween to animate.

Here is a tutorial on color changing tweens.
http://www.ehow.com/video_4972473_flash-animation-tutorial-color-tweening.html

You can also use frame by frame animation.

Action Script 3

File dimensions: 550x400

The animation should be on your second scene.
The first scene is to get the user to interact with the button and into the story.

Good luck!

Here is the code to copy and paste into your Actions to make the button take you to the next scene IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO MULTIPLE SCENES. (OPTIONAL) AND CODE FOR SCENE 2.

THIS CODE BELONGS ON SCENE 1 SO YOUR BUTTON WORKS TO TAKE YOU TO SCENE 2.

stop();

import flash.events.MouseEvent;
import flash.ui.Mouse;

addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onMouseClick);

function onMouseClick(evt:MouseEvent)
{
 if(evt.target.name == "nextButton")
 {
  gotoAndStop(1, "Scene 2");
 }

}

You will also need to add one line of script on Scene 2 that says

play();

The Great Invisible Movie by Margaret Brown

Margaret Brown's documentary The Great Invisible features the filmmaker traveling to towns throughout the south that are still experiencing the disastrous effects off the Deepwater Horizon oil spill from 2010. The filmmakers capture the environmental, health, and financial impact of BP's lethal mistake, and show how the story is not over even though the headlines have gone away. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

scripts video project

hector, fatima, miguel, maria, armando

kid in class
goes to the hall
his mom texts him in a car
they die
split screen shows that he graduates

jorge and bryan
they meet for pizza
they die in a car

randy, patrick, treydon
they drive and distract the driver
they die

All:
We filmed some scenes in the classroom with red and blue lights flashing over their faces as they talked about Texting and Driving Statistics. We imagined that would be at the end of the videos.

Maybe we mix all videos together and they all crash into each other at the end - one video instead of 3 separate ones. Might be better.

Video PSA Blog

What was the process like creating your video?

What was your role on the teams and how did you contribute to the project?

What do you think you learned from this whole experience so far and how could it help you in the future?

PSA Project

What was the process like creating your video?

First we formed teams to work on a video project. Mr. Streckfus announced that we were to make a video Public Service Announcement, or PSA about Safe Driving. On my team were Larry, Moe, and Curly Joe. We all researched and collected our facts and decided that our film would be about the dangers of texting and driving.

We discussed our story ideas based around a teen who crashes when they are texting while driving.

All three of us went home and wrote scripts. The next  day we all shared our script ideas and rewrote a bigger and better script.

The next step was to draw the story on paper so we can figure out  what scenes to film and what camera angles to use.

We made a list of props and filming began the next day or two.

Ms. Arcos gave us a video camera and a digital camera with video capabilities to use. We experimented in class with the cameras until we were comfortable using them and understood how to use them.

What was your role on the teams and how did you contribute to the project?
My role was camera man and I said action and cut and operated the camera.
My role was acting as the teenager.

What do you think you learned from this whole experience so far and how could it help you in the future?
I learned a lot about driving safety, and I think in the future maybe I'll make more videos.

Ebola: The most deadly virus

Ebola is a deadly virus caused by interacting with the blood or saliva, or other bodily fluids like sweat, tears, semen, urine, breast milk, and mucous, from an infected person or animal. When I say interact what I really mean is get those fluids somehow into the eyes, mouth or open wound.

The symptoms are fever, headaches, lots of pain, weakness, excessive pooping, vomiting, bleeding from eyes, nose, ears, and elsewhere.

The first patient was in 1976 from Republic of Congo. In 2014, and outbreak occurred in Guinea.

Right now, in Dallas, TX, there is a patient who has Ebola. They are quarantining him and others who have come into contact with him. This way, no one else will catch it, hopefully.

I found info on Ebola at this website.

4th period - Video summary

You need to write a summary of your video in your blog.

EXAMPLE BELOW:

I'm going to make a movie about texting and driving. This is my vision for the movie.

Ladavius, a teenager is driving to the T-Mobile Store. He wants a new phone.
On the way to the store, he decides to play a game on his phone.
He gets in a wreck.
He goes to the hospital. In the ER he feels bad about losing his game and wrecking.
Then at the end of the movie the facts will be on the screen.

NEXT STEP:
Begin working on a script.
Who are the characters? Where do they live?
What happens? Why? How?

6th Period: Animated PSA Assignment

You are going to make a cartoon about safe driving.

First you must research about it. Find facts and statistics to use in your cartoon.

First Blog Post
Put the facts that you found in a blog post. You should find at least 20 facts from 2 different websites. Cite your sources in the blog post. Give credit where credit is due. If you copy someone else's work, without giving them credit that is plagiarism. You would be violating their copyrights.

2nd blog post
Focus on 3 facts that you will use in your video.
Describe your vision for your movie.
What I'm looking for is a short summary of the movie.
For example:
A teenager is driving with their friends. They are drinking white wine and texting like crazy on their brand new iPhone 6 Plus. Maybe it's a red Ferrari. They crash and die. The car flips over. The seat belt breaks. One driver breaks his/her neck. The other one lands in a tree.

NEXT STEP:
Draw a storyboard for your cartoon.

Storyboard Layout

This is an example of a storyboard layout. It's sort of like a comic book. It will tell the story using images. If you want you can add words as well, or, you can write your story in text form.
I found it at this site.
http://cdn.jackywinter.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/Parkour-30sec-storyboard_Layout_v-918x656.jpg

5th Period: PSA Assignment Part 2

In your second blog post I want you to focus on 2-3 facts only. Put these facts in the blog post. Give credit for your facts.

For example:
This is where I found my information:
https://www.dosomething.org/facts/11-facts-about-teen-driving

Discuss your vision (10 sentences) for your short movie that you will make in Flash. What will your movie be like?

After you know in your head, what your movie will be like, then, you draw your movie on paper using a storyboard layout.

Once you do that, then it will be time to get in Flash to begin making the movie.

This is an example:
I am going to make a movie about safe driving. In the beginning a teenager will be driving. Then, he/she will get a text message from his/her parents. The text message says, please be careful when driving. When the student reads the text message they crash. The crash actually kills 199 people. At the end of the movie a police person will talk to the audience about safe driving. Then the police will drive away. They get a text message. They check their phone. The cop crashes. He accidentally kills 1 billion people in the biggest crash in history. Why did he check his phone?

5th Period - Animated PSA Assignment

I want you to research safe driving and create a blog post with 20 facts in the blog post. Make sure you cite your sources. Put the URL of where you found your information in the blog post.
Give credit where credit is due.

For example:

I am going to create a movie about safe driving. Here is some research I did. I found some facts that I want to share. I will use 2 or 4 of these facts in my movie.

Here is the website where I found my information.

https://www.dosomething.org/facts/11-facts-about-teen-driving

Here are the facts:

  1. 1. 33% of deaths among 13 to 19-year-olds in 2010 occurred in motor vehicle crashes.
  2. 2. 16-year-olds have higher crash rates than drivers of any other age.
  3. 3. 56% of teens said they talk on the phone while driving.
  4. 4. Statistics show that 16 and 17-year-old driver death rates increase with each additional passenger.
  5. 5. Only 44% of teens said they would definitely speak up if someone were driving in a way that scared them.

4th period - 2 blog posts re: Research for Video Project

You are going to make a video about safe driving.

First you must research about it. Find facts and statistics to use in your video.

Put the facts that you found in a blog post. You should find at least 20 facts from 2 different websites. Cite your sources in the blog post. Give credit where credit is due. If you copy someone else's work, without giving them credit that is plagiarism. You would be violating their copyrights.

3 Period - 2nd Blog post

In your second blog post, titled Safe Driving 2, I want you to focus on 2-3 facts only. Put these facts in the blog post. Give credit for your facts.

For example:
I am focusing on these 3 facts for my cartoon.
[List your facts next]
1. Fact one
2. Fact two
3. If you have a third fact

This is where I found my information:
https://www.dosomething.org/facts/11-facts-about-teen-driving

Then, discuss your vision (10 sentences) for your short movie that you will make in Flash. What will your movie be like?

3 period - first blog post

I want you to research safe driving and create a blog post with 20 facts in the blog post. Make sure you cite your sources. Put the URL of where you found your information in the blog post.
Give credit where credit is due.

For example:
