Camera clubs on a global scale were getting together and trying to see where photography could go, what is could be perceived as and what it could be. Getting accepted in the fine art world was one of the goals of the photographers. It's not just a scientific gimmick. It's art.

Sander was the generation after that.

Pictorialism extends into the 1940s, and stylistic elements can be seen in Sander's work.

In 1911 A Sander published his first book. is not a

The coner Progressive were all about New Objectivity. They were radicals. In the 20s,..he shot the working class. two blind kids, a beggar, workers, baker, brick laers..those subjects were not the trend of the day. HE said look at this, this is what is beautiful. Shalow depth of field. Lush backgrounds, it looks like a painting. Pictorialism.

A kid on a bike, playing with oddities in terms of proportion. A baby can not ride a bicycle.

Trippy stuff. A child on a horse with a doll.

It was progressive stuff, in the 20s. Woking class. Lower class.

Today we are conditioned to see shots like this. BUt back then, it was radical.

Dian Arbus was terrifically influenced by him.

She was influenced by him and took it further.

Robotics: Brick RESET

--
If for some reason your EV3 Brick stops working during the firmware
update process, you will need to manually update the firmware by
doing the following (the EV3 Brick still needs a USB connection to
your computer):

1. Hold down the Back, Center, and Right buttons on the EV3 Brick.
2. When the EV3 Brick restarts, release the Back button.
3. When the screen says “Updating,” release the Center and Right
buttons and click the Download button in the Firmware Update
tool. The firmware will be downloaded to your EV3 Brick, which
will restart itself.

If the manual firmware update does not make your EV3 Brick work
the first time, repeat the manual update process.

Photo: Notable Photographers

Using the handout Photographers Shortlist, choose a notable photographer from modern times and research them online learning as much as you can. Create a blog post about that photographer discussing their life and their work. Embed some of their photos in your blog post and discuss their work. What does it make you feel? What do you think was the artist's intention? How do they use light, shadow, composition, color, etc in their work?

CREATEatUT - Robotics Edition
Saturday, October 3, 2015
UT Austin Engineering Complex

Hosted by the Women in Engineering Program (WEP), CREATEatUT Robotics Edition is a special program for female high school students who wish to explore robotics, coding, and engineering through hands-on activities and the LEGO Mindstorms coding curriculum. Students will get to build and program their robot and learn how to incorporate multiple sensors in their design through a variety of creative open-ended challenges. Students will get the chance to work with current engineering student mentors and learn more about the process of applying to UT and the resources available to them as students.

The cost for attending CREATEatUT is $75 per participant. Once a participant registers, they will receive a link to pay online. Once paid, no portion of the registration fee is refundable.

Photography: Intent

Intent

Why do you want to take pictures? You may want to share with others how you see the world around you, you may want to document your life and that of the people you love, you may have a desire to create images that blow other people away. There are so many excellent reasons to get into photography and why you do so is up to you.

Photography is an art and you are the artist. If you're thinking you could never be an artist I have good news for you - you already are. Even just taking the time to read this page you've shown you have the desire make images that give you pleasure and can affect others - that is art.
Now comes the fun part - think about why you want to take pictures. Write down a list of:
  1. Things you like about photography. Do you love the moment of seeing the images in prints or on your screen? Is it the challenge of making the photo? Is it the sharing the images with your friends? Is it the memories you get when you look at your photos later? Whatever it is you like about taking pictures, write it down.
  2. What you want to achieve with photography. Do you want to remember what your kids are like at each stage of their growing up? Do you like flowers or architecture or mountains and want to document them? Do you want to show the human condition? Do you want to pursue a career in photography? Write down what you want your photography to do.
  3. What subjects you want to shoot. Flowers, dogs, kids, models, food, people's feet, whatever. Write down those things you find catch your eye or make you wish you had your camera when you see it.
  4. How you feel about those subjects. Do you love it, hate it, feel afraid of it, laugh at it, wish it was yours? This is actually the most important section of the lesson. When you understand what you feel towards something, you'll find your photography of it improves automatically.
Now grab your pen and start writing. Once you're done, put it on the wall, throw it into your camera bag or put it somewhere you can easily review it. Add or change it as you grow as a photographer. But once you have the list, you have a great tool to make your photography better.

Text and Image: Graphic Design

Re-visit the questionnaire you filled out about your super hero character that you just invented.

What you need to do is edit this document so that none of the original questions are there. Just delete that text so that only your answers to the questions remain. The text that remains on the document is your thoughts about your character.

Copy that text and paste it into a text field within your Photoshop or Flash file with the painting you digitally created of your super hero character.

This updated piece of art will be what we want to print out for an art show.

We will also be making video interviews of you talking about your super hero which will be spliced together to form a longer video that will play at the art show on video monitors.

Get your game face on Tigers!

Sincerely,
Mr. Streckfus

Design A Super Hero

Intro: Video 8 mins
Men Without Fear: Creating Daredevil
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pewjca-phmc

Next: Read the following article

http://www.wikihow.com/Create-a-Super-Hero

Copy the questions below to create your own WordPad file, and save that file in the Assignments folder for the correct period.

Name
Period

1 Choose your superhero’s powers. Since super heroes are generally identified by their powers, it might make sense to think of the powers first and then shape the character to fit them.

2 Decide how the character got those powers. Picking a cool power isn’t enough; to make it relevant, you have to integrate it into the character’s life story so that it becomes part of what defines their actions.

3 Think about how the powers have evolved. What was the character’s initial reaction? How long did it take before the character had second thoughts? Have the powers become necessary for survival?

4 Give your superhero a tragic flaw. An invulnerable hero can get old fast. By giving him or her a fatal weakness, you make battles more interesting and make fans more invested in the character. (Sometimes, the powers themselves are the tragic flaw.)

5 Choose a gender and build for your superhero. The superpowers you have chosen will help you determine the character’s physicality. Is your character a tank? Would a lithe and lanky build more appropriate? Is the power gender-specific?

6 Flesh out your character’s superhero personality. Now that you have covered the ins and outs of what makes this hero so super, you can flesh out the personality accordingly. Is (s)he aggressive and confident? Quiet and shy? Backhanded and manipulative? Brassy and funny? Outrageous and pompous? Dark and conflicted? The list goes on…

7 Flesh out your character’s everyday personality. Most superheroes have alter-egos that keep them safe from enemies and help them navigate the normal human world; this is a huge part of what makes them so good, as most people feel like they have to hide their true selves from others.

8 Create a weakness for your hero. What is your superhero's 'soft spot'? Are they mortally afraid of anything or anyone? Nobody is perfect, and neither is your superhero.

9. Determine the community’s relationship to both the superhero self and the everyday self. Do people look up one or both personalities? Does anyone know that they are really a superhero?
