Camera clubs on a global scale were getting together and trying to see where photography could go, what is could be perceived as and what it could be. Getting accepted in the fine art world was one of the goals of the photographers. It's not just a scientific gimmick. It's art.

The coner Progressive were all about New Objectivity. They were radicals. In the 20s,..he shot the working class. two blind kids, a beggar, workers, baker, brick laers..those subjects were not the trend of the day. HE said look at this, this is what is beautiful. Shalow depth of field. Lush backgrounds, it looks like a painting. Pictorialism.
A kid on a bike, playing with oddities in terms of proportion. A baby can not ride a bicycle.
Trippy stuff. A child on a horse with a doll.
It was progressive stuff, in the 20s. Woking class. Lower class.
Today we are conditioned to see shots like this. BUt back then, it was radical.
Dian Arbus was terrifically influenced by him.
She was influenced by him and took it further.
